effexor xr and vision problems

while researching the role of effexor xr in early onset Macular Degeneration, I overlooked the possiblity that it might contribute to early onset Glaucoma. Yes, Effexor XR warnings indicate “Your healthcare provider should monitor your closely if you have glaucoma (a condition of the eyes) while you are taking Effexor XR,” but what about if you were put on the drug ten years ago when your eyes were pretty damn close to perfect? And no one in your family ever had glaucoma? And when you mention over the course of the years the fact that you are experiencing burning and tearing, the general concensus is that it is due to dry eyes or overuse of your computer???

The journal Drug Safety (2008; Vol. 31: pp. 127-141) that described the most common and most recently identified adverse reactions with manifestations in the eye. We describe these reactions as they relate to the particular structures in the eye or to particular conditions such as glaucoma. The particular drugs that may cause these reactions are listed in the accompanying table that includes 62 different drugs

ther potential serious Effexor side effects include the serotonin syndrome, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, high blood pressure, seizures, cardiac arrhythmias, low serum sodium sometimes from SIADH, pancreatitis, glaucoma, serious blood dyscrasias, and extrapyramidal symptoms. Source

A couple of years later, my eyesight became notably worse. As a designer, I was really concerned, as my ability to differentiate colours was greatly impacted. I decided to see a specialist and was told that not only did I have predictable (for my age) cataracts, but that in examining my eyeball interiors, I had signs of drusen, which is indicative of macular degeneration. I couldn’t believe it, so I saw another specialist. Now this is something that usually is genetic, and there again, I have my octogenarian parents, who wear glasses, but certainly never got this diagnosis! I got the same diagnosis the second time.

This year, the vision thing started to get way worse. I had several incidents night driving where the glare from headlights would blind me so much that I couldn’t read a road sign when I placed it in my centre of vision.

there are certain families of anti-depressants that are responsible for symptoms that mimic age-related macular degeneration. from depression forums
